Chemical Reactivity Hazards

Kaypear has deep expertise in managing chemical reactivity hazards and has strong technical background with Design Institute of Emergency Relief System (DiERS) technology. The 2002 report on Improving Reactive Hazard Management published by the U.S Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (US CSB) identified 60% of the 167 incidents with no NFPA categorization for reactive hazards. The report also notes that there is a paucity of process safety information for reactive chemicals and therefore requires expertise to manage reactive hazards during normal conditions and for all foreseeable abnormal conditions.  Contact us to know how we can protect your assets and people from reactivity hazards!

How to get started?

Calorimetry Data

A calorimeter is used for measuring the heat of reaction (released or absorbed) and can also be used to determine the type of reaction: vapor, gassy, or hybrid. An adiabatic calorimeter test is recommended as it provides the necessary information for a Process Safety Review and vent sizing.

Kaypear can consult on the protocol of the test and number of test necessary to represent the process for normal operation and for all foreseeable abnormal conditions. Subtle changes to chemistry and/or incompatibility with other chemicals can yield different results and therefore require careful evaluation of all parameters before undertaking calorimetry testing. A comprehensive calorimetry study will provide useful information for improving Process Safety performance and lend itself to operation excellence strategies.

Benefits of Chemical Reactivity Hazards Program

Benefits of Reactive Hazards Program

A Reactive Hazards Program will reduce the risk associated with the process and requires competent staff to pro-actively manage the risk. Kaypear can provide training and development for your staff. A well developed Reactive Hazards Program provides effective strategies for molecules with a very low life cycle and expedite the scale up operation. Furthermore, it helps to determine the safe operating window, identify effective safeguards, trouble shooting of process, and safe handling & storage of reactive chemicals.
